Agenda for Competitors and the Public

The public is cordially invited to come and hear the Town Criers,
and to join them on suitable occasions, as noted below.

Thursday, May 30, 2002

6:00 p.m. Markham Museum and Historic Village in the Old Village of Markham. Here Dinner is being supplied by the Markham Historical Society to the Town Criers. (For Town Criers and their escorts only)

9:00 p.m. Join the Town Criers at The Duchess of Markham.

 

Friday, May 31st, 2002

10:00 a.m. The first cry will take place at Historic Fort York. This cry will be the cry about Historic Fort York. Following the cry the top three criers will be announced and presented with plaques.

2:30 p.m. Join us for the Opening Ceremonies of the Bloorcourt Festival and the second cry. This cry will take place at Bloorcourt Village (located at Bloor Street and Shaw Street.) The subject of the cry will be Bloorcourt Village and Toronto. Following the cry the presentation of the plaques to the winners.

6:30 p.m. The criers will be at the CN Tower. They will be doing demonstration cries where the public is invited to choose the best Town Crier.

 

Saturday, June 1st, 2002

10:00 a.m. The Town Criers will lead the Unionville Festival Parade up Main Street Unionville.

12:00 p.m. The official opening of the Queen's Golden Jubilee Town Crier Competition at the Band shell where the 3rd and 4th cries will take place.

12:15 p.m. The third cry will start. The subject is the Queen's Golden Jubilee. At the end of the third cry the top three criers will be announced.

3:30 p.m. The start of the fourth cry. The topic is a vendor from the Main Street of Unionville that has been given to the crier. The top three criers will be awarded plaques.

6:00 p.m. The criers will be at The Duchess of Markham for dinner. The Duchess of Markham has kindly agreed to provide dinner for the criers and their escorts.

9:00 p.m. The criers will be back at the Unionville Festival for the Fireworks.

 

Sunday, June 2nd, 2002

10:00 a.m. Church service at St. Andrew's United Church, 32 Main Street in Markham.

11:15 a.m. Pot Luck lunch at the Church. Please join the Town Criers and bring your favourite dish to share.

2:30 p.m. The fifth cry will be held at the Sharon Temple in East Gwillimbury. The cry will be about the Sharon Temple. Following the cry the top three criers will be awarded plaques.

5:00 p.m. The Lions Club of Sharon is hosting a Community BBQ. Everyone is invited to join the Community of Sharon for this Fun Day.

6:00 p. m. The announcement of the Grand Champion and the two runners up.

 

The Golden Jubilee Town Crier Competition is held in conjunction with the 27th Annual Unionville Village Festival. This Festival on its own attracts over 25,000 people who are not strangers to the excitement generated by Town Criers. In 1993 the Town of Markham hosted the World Town Crier Championships to the delight of the many thousands in attendance.
