Ray Parker

Ray Parker is the official town crier of Nanaimo, British Columbia, -- a city world famous for its annual Bathtub Races. Ray is an actor, comedian, magician and vocalist.

His first appearance as a town crier was in 1989 at the request of his agent and although Ray can claim to be one of the world's shortest criers, the volume of his proclamations soon resulted in further engagements. In September 2002, he took on his first official appointment in the Vancouver Island city he calls home.

Ray is a member in good standing in The Pacific Northwest Company of Town Criers.

The carving on the top of Ray's staff is of the Nanaimo Bastion, which was built by the Hudson Bay Company as a fort in 1853 and now overlooks Nanaimo's harbour -- the only such Hudson Bay Company structure remaining in Western Canada.
